Umbraco 17 Upgrade
Umbraco 13 reaches end of life on 14 December 2026 - security patches and updates stop from this date. That means that the Umbraco community aren’t proactively looking for vulnerabilities or releasing security patches to fix them - here's what you need to know, and how to prepare.
(p.s. LOOP customers get the upgrade for free!)
Need to upgrade from an old version of Umbraco?
Umbraco is a popular open source content management system (CMS). It's used across our clients and for our LOOP attractions website platform.
It's a fully featured enterprise-grade CMS, and it gets regular patches and updates from the open source community, coordinated by the central Umbraco team.
They set a release cycle that's split between Short Term Support (STS) and Long Term Support (LTS) versions.
Like many Umbraco developers, we hop between LTS versions. These are the versions that get several years of patches, and security updates.
Every few years, an LTS version reaches it's end-of-life. And that's happening for Umbraco 13 on 14th December 2026.
How much does it cost to upgrade to Umbraco 17?
£5k? £7k? £15k.
With LOOP it's FREE.
We have seen fixed price upgrade costs ranging from £9,000 to £15,000 for a standard Umbraco 13 to 17 upgrade, based on current UK market rates. That’s a lot of budget to find if you weren’t expecting it.
Staying up-to-date in an AI world is more important than ever
AI bot attacks are becoming more sophisticated, so it's important to keep your site updated.
LOOP customers get this significant CMS upgrade for FREE. It's part of their package, baked in to the model. We can roll out upgrades efficiently across all clients so that they always stay secure and reliable.
In fact, moving to LOOP may well be more cost-effective than trying to upgrade your current Umbraco attraction website.
If you're stuck on an old version of Umbraco, then moving to LOOP will get you an up-to-date site, in a CMS you and your team already knows. No big build costs, no complex onboarding, plus you'll be covered next time this happens!
