Bure Valley Railway

Bure Valley Railway joins LOOP - Norfolk's favourite narrow gauge steam railway gets a new digital home.

Heritage Railway Websites Are Unique

Heritage railways provide some unique attractions when mapping out a new website.   Not only does the site need to showcase the experience and attraction casual day-trippers, we also need to ensure there is enough detail for railway enthusiasts who are often more research-led and detail-oriented.

Building a great heritage railway website means designing for both audiences at once, and in 2026, there is of course the rise of AI search and AEO/GEO to factor in to the mix too.

Bure Valley also wanted to migrate to a more SEO-friendly primary domain, a move often fraught with danger, if not carried out with great care...

"Very impressed with the Semantic team! I’ve been working with them on a website development project for a client, and the entire experience has been smooth and well-organised from start to finish.

Our account manager, Dan, has been extremely accommodating - questions were always answered quickly and any issues were resolved without delay.

I also really appreciate that if the Loop website platform doesn’t currently support a specific feature, the team are open to adding it to their roadmap for future version updates.

I’d happily recommend Semantic to any future clients operating in the attractions sector."

How we helped

  • Domain migration from bvrw.co.uk with full SEO redirects
  • LOOP Transport Timetable module, first live deployment
  • Rich video content bringing the steam experience to life
  • Visisoft booking call-to-actions throughout
  • Comprehensive seasonal events calendar and visit info
  • Easy to manage CMS for the team

The project also gave us the opportunity to launch LOOP's new Transport Timetable module - a purpose-built tool for heritage railways and transport-led attractions, now part of the standard LOOP platform and rolling out to other venues in the months ahead. Bure Valley Railway was the first to benefit from it and can now easily update and present their full timetables in a mobile-first way... something that we often see heritage railways struggling with online.
