Any friend of Airkix...

Welcome and thanks for visiting us here at Semantic. Any friend of Airkix is a friend of ours. We provide friendly and professional web design, online marketing and consultancy to a range of clients, including the great guys at Airkix.

The Airkix X-man

We hope you've enjoyed the Airkix web site... but believe us it's nothing compared to the rush of actually being in the tunnel. If you've yet to fly we'd recommend stopping reading this page right now. Go fly... it's awesome.

(Pssst. You can see what happened when Semantic flew a little further down the page.)

If, on the other hand you have a) already flown, b) an interest in our web design & development prowess, or c) an unnatural fear of helmets... read on.

The story of Airkix + Semantic

Nick got a call from Simon Ward (the Airkix CEO) out of the blue in the summer of 2006.

"I'm looking for an amazing new site... and I need it in a month!"

As is often the case Simon had seen some of our other work, and read some of the things our clients have said about us... and was interested in getting together.

He was (and is) a great client. He knows what he likes but will take advice, and he understands that good work takes time and money. As it happened it took slightly longer than a month to get the site done... but some things are too important to be urgent.

Our approach to the Airkix web site

All things being equal the simplest solution is usually the best. In this case, because Simon was the key decision maker we were able to use a very focused homepage. Our aims were to:

  • communicate the experience of "flying at Airkix"
  • clearly signpost critical tasks (e.g. book flights & redeem vouchers)
  • answer key user questions (e.g. price, availability & location)

On that last point it's worth noting (if you are involved with an attraction) that one or more of these three areas come top of the list for almost all visitors. "How much, where and when?" are critical issues for users. That's why you'll see this information clearly signposted on the homepages of all our attraction sites.

(And of course, if you can answer the "how much?" question carefully it can be an online sales opportunity.)

In the case of Airkix we were linking into a third party booking system, but we still needed to balance the needs of the novice "experience" market with those of the skydiving community... a critical caucus who would use (and promote) the tunnel for training purposes.

It all worked out really well, and the response from users, partners and staff at Airkix has been really (really) positive.

The iBrochure

In the Autumn of 2007 Airkix asked us to create an interactive iBrochure... something that would allow them to communicate their offering to companies, without the costs and inflexibility of printing.

As well as interactive (turnable) pages the finished iBrochure includes animation, an interactive price calculator and even videos.

Download the iBrochure at Airkix.com.

When Semantic flew

Sometimes no amount of words can describe sheer athleticism of Nick & Mike. Thanks to Chris for the filming & editing... and thanks to Simon, for giving me the helmet with the dog on it (you'll see what I mean).
