I've been thinking about the way we learn stuff at Semantic?

Yesterday I received an email from a reader asking for some pointers about developing their web skills... Naturally I dove right in and started talking about Semantic's skill-set evolution, which goes something like:

HTML
Javascript
ASP
Flash
SQL
XML

I wrote a long, rather turgid, reply that used the word "scripting" more than was really necessary, but that wasn't the real problem. The real problem was that I made it sound like we had a logical well thought out plan for development. Naturally that's a lie.

The truth is we had ideas and went about finding out how to make them work. TThe idea always comes first.

Sure you can go on courses and buy step-by-step books... but we're blokes... we want to jump in, we want the good stuff now... and we never, ever read the manual!

Pssst... over here!

Hi there. Thanks for visiting Semantic's old blog. Yep, that's right... this is an archive of stories from December 2005 and June 2010.

Our wit and wisdom now lives at blog.semantic.co.uk.

(Which is not to say that there's plenty worth reading here... you lucky devil.)
